EDITORIAL POLICIES

Focus and Scope

The purpose of RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad, of the Humanities Directorate, Corporación Universitaria Remington (Uniremington), is to contribute to dissemination of research, reviews, analyses and theoretical developments related to humanistic, social and educational issues. The journal publishes unpublished articles both in Spanish and in English that contribute to the discussion of national and international interest on human and social development. It is a digital ongoing publication with two closing periods every six months (January-June and July-December).

The journal is intended for professionals, researchers, students and a general audience interested in humanistic studies, social and educational topics, and it enables the dialogue of knowledge between institutions and communities. Both the decisions and approaches of RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad adhere to all the applicable national and international copyright guidelines. Additionally, the quality requirements of the indexing and abstracting systems are met by the publication.

This journal does not charge APC (Article Processing Charge) or any other fee for the various editorial processes. This is a Diamond Open Access journal.

Referee and peer review process

Once an article is submitted by the author for assessment, the journal editor and editorial assistant carefully review compliance with the rules defined in the author guidelines. When the editorial assessment has been completed, the editorial board recommends two reviewers for the original research manuscripts, reflection articles derived from research, review articles and topical review article; and one reviewer for reflection papers not derived from research. This journal uses double-blind review; therefore, both the reviewer and author identities are concealed from the reviewers, and vice versa, throughout the review process. These reviewers can be national or international and, preferably, external to the publishing institution. Reviewers report their opinion about an article by filling in a review form, where they assess the clarity, coherence, suitability and relevance of the submitted article, including the problem statement, the introduction, the methodology, the results, the discussion and conclusions sections.   In addition, reviewers assess whether the manuscript ostensibly contributes to the conservation, transmission, expansion or renewal of current knowledge on the subject.

Once the feedback of reviewers have been submitted and received, the committee decides to accept the article without changes, accept it after revisions or reject it for publication. Where the reviewers differ in their recommendation to accept the manuscript or not, an additional reviewer is asked to evaluate the manuscript and the editorial board, taking into account the arguments of all of them, ultimately decides whether to publish it or not. In any case, the editorial board reserves the right to publish or refuse publication of the articles submitted.

The article publication process will only be effective if the author agrees to make the changes proposed by the reviewers and resubmit them to the editor promptly through OJS. The author should respond through comments inside the article to each of the reviewer comments, either detailing how each review comment was addressed and the changes that were made  or providing reasoning why the reviewer comment was not addressed.

The editorial board makes the final decision to publish the papers submitted to the journal, based on compliance with the established editorial guidelines and in accordance with the feedback of peer reviewers.

The acceptance of the paper for publication entails the express authorization from the authors to the journal to edit, reproduce, translate and disclose by any means the information contained in it.  Neither Corporación Universitaria Remington nor RHS will be responsible for the views contained in the published papers. Responsibility for the work’s content falls entirely and exclusively on the authors.  This authorization is made in the authors' certificate. The estimated lasting time for the editorial process from reception up to the final decision of the editorial board is 8 months.

Open Access Policy

The journal adopts the diamond open access policy, that is, it does not have article processing charges (APC) or author fees for article publication or for any of the editorial processes. This is possible because the journal is funded by the publishing institution. Additionally, readers and authors are informed that RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad is an open access journal. This means that all content is freely available, at no charge to the user or their institution. Users can read, download, copy, distribute, print, search or link to the full text of the articles in this journal without requesting prior permission from the editor or the author, as long as proper referencing is made to the source. This is in accordance with the definition of open access offered by the Budapest Open Access Initiative (BOAI). RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad is under a Creative Commons Attribution License: Attribution-Non-commercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International.

Anti-plagiarism policy

All the manuscripts sent to the journal will be checked for potential plagiarism with Turnitin, a plagiarism detection software. If total or partial plagiarism is detected (without the corresponding citation of references), the text is not sent for evaluation and the author is alerted of the reason for rejection.

Plagiarism is a major issue worldwide and papers that either plagiarize or breach copyright prove poor editorial quality and thus will be immediately rejected.

Declaration of editorial ethics and good practices

The declaration of editorial ethics and good practices of RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad seeks to ensure editorial quality, transparency and integrity throughout the publishing process of articles submitted to the journal. The ethical principles governing the publication of articles in RHS are based on the international regulations proposed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Principles of Transparency and Best Practice in Scholarly Publishing (DOAJ) and common standards for journals and digital content publication.

a. Contribution and authorship policies

Authors certify in the Author declaration form that they know the criteria required by RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad, its scope, author regulations, use policies and documents for authors; that the manuscript submitted is an original and unpublished work (unpublished means a manuscript that has not previously been published in Spanish or any other language); that it is a product of their own intellectual creation and that is not simultaneously under consideration for publication by any other journal or publishing body. Please notice that no more than five authors should be involved per article.

Authors have the right to have their manuscripts reviewed fairly and impartially, within a reasonable time frame. They also have the right to be respectfully treated in their engagement with the journal.

Given the fact that RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad adheres to the policies of the Colombian journal measurement system of specialized scientific journals (Publindex) —from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation—, authors are required, if they have Colombian nationality, to comply with the following requirements before submitting an article for publication:

• Be registered in CvLAC ((Latin American and Caribbean Curriculum Vitae).
• Be registered for an ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID).

b. Policies on competing interests

Reviewers must disclose in writing on the Evaluation form the existence of a relationship between the reviewer and the authors of the article to be reviewed, from which a potential competing interest could arise. If there is a competing interest, the editor of the journal must be informed immediately, who will in turn inform the editorial board to take the appropriate measure in order not to affect the editorial process.

c. Policies on data sharing and reproducibility

The editor of the journal must abide by the laws of their jurisdiction regarding privacy. Regardless of local statutes, they must always safeguard the privacy of personal data collected during a research study or professional interaction.

d. Intellectual property policy

Sources must be properly acknowledged, authors who have used the work of others must cite them correctly. f. Research ethics policy

For original research articles, a statement must be included that the researchers conformed to Colombian and international ethical provisions in their study, ensuring that sensitive data of individuals and respect for information are safeguarded.

g. Retraction Policy

RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad is committed to scientific integrity, editorial transparency, and best practices in academic publishing. In accordance with editorial quality standards and the international guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the journal establishes the following policy for managing retractions related to published content.

The journal may retract an article when there is evidence that its results, content, or editorial processes present serious irregularities affecting the scientific reliability or ethical integrity of the publication. Retractions may result from situations such as plagiarism or self-plagiarism, data fabrication or falsification, improper manipulation of information, duplicate or redundant publication, non-compliance with research ethics principles, fraudulent authorship, serious methodological errors that invalidate the results, or undeclared ethical conflicts.

The editor will conduct a preliminary assessment of each reported case and formally notify the authors involved, who may submit clarifications, explanations, or supporting documentation within the timeframe established by the journal. Subsequently, the Editorial Committee will analyze the available evidence and, when necessary, may consult affiliated institutions, external reviewers, or academic verification and similarity-detection tools. Once the review process has concluded, the final decision will be formally communicated to the authors.

If a retraction is determined, the original article will remain accessible as part of the journal’s scholarly record, but it will be clearly identified as “Retracted.” In addition, an editorial note explaining the reasons for the decision will be published, and the retraction will be linked to the article’s DOI and metadata. When appropriate, the journal will notify indexing systems and bibliographic databases of the decision. The journal RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad will avoid removing published articles except in cases where legal or judicial requirements make such action necessary.

The Journal RHS-Revista Humanismo y Sociedad guarantees that all processes related to retractions will be conducted under the principles of editorial transparency, due process, confidentiality, and scientific integrity. Likewise, the journal will ensure the preservation of the scholarly record and the implementation of international editorial best practices in accordance with ethical and quality standards for scientific publications.

In order to ensure the traceability and transparency of retractions, the journal will implement mechanisms for metadata updates, linkage between articles and retraction notices, DOI preservation, and visible identification of changes within the OJS platform. Likewise, when appropriate, the journal will communicate retractions to indexes, indexing systems, and academic databases.
